Las Vegas Sands May Expand Casino Footprint in Singapore

The company is expected to unveil further details later this year about a potential $7.5 billion expansion project. While a fourth hotel tower is already in the works, it will not include a new casino. However, reports suggest Sands may still expand the existing gaming area within MBS or potentially build a complementary venue nearby.

Speaking at an investor conference on Wednesday, Sands Chairman and CEO Rob Goldstein revealed that the new development will feature fewer rooms than the original MBS towers but will include a gaming floor and live entertainment facilities. The goal is to enhance Singapore’s appeal to high-spending international tourists, especially those seeking premium entertainment and gaming experiences.

Strategic Expansion in a Lucrative Market

Expanding in Singapore is a smart move for Sands, especially since the city-state is the company’s only market outside Macau. Marina Bay Sands remains one of the most valuable and profitable casino brands globally, renowned for drawing affluent clientele from across the region.

Construction on the MBS expansion is expected to begin in 2025, with completion targeted by 2029. The project is seen as critical to maintaining MBS’s competitive edge in the fast-evolving Asia-Pacific gaming landscape.

Goldstein also noted that Singapore’s gross gaming revenue (GGR) could surpass $7 billion this year, with the potential to climb to $10 billion in the coming years—solidifying its position as a global gaming powerhouse.

Singapore’s Rising Global Profile

While Macau still dominates the Asia-Pacific casino scene, Singapore’s growth is drawing attention. With just two integrated resorts, the city-state has rapidly emerged as a significant player in the global gaming industry.

“Singapore is going through a growth spurt,” said Goldstein. “All of a sudden, it’s become a hugely important market.”

If Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa reach a combined $10 billion in annual GGR, Singapore would become the third-largest casino market in the world—trailing only Macau and Nevada.
