Bally’s launches new app in Ontario’s busy iGaming market

Bally’s Interactive

The recent announcement of Bally’s Interactive launching its new sports betting and casino app in Ontario has reignited discussions about the potential saturation of the province’s burgeoning iGaming market. With over 50 licensed operators and 81 active gaming websites since the market’s inception in April 2022, many are questioning how much growth Ontario’s market can sustain.

Ontario’s Expanding iGaming Landscape

Ontario, a prominent player in North America’s iGaming scene, has reported significant growth in its regulated market. According to iGaming Ontario, the province’s FY 2023-24 online casino and sports betting revenue reached $630 million, a notable increase from $561 million in the previous year. Private operators alone handled $64 billion in wagers during this period.

Despite these figures, competition continues to intensify. Operators must secure an iGaming operator registration from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and sign an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. Currently, 24 additional operator applications are under review, signaling further growth.

Bally’s New Offering: Bally Bet Sportsbook & Casino

On Monday, Bally’s Interactive unveiled its new Bally Bet Sportsbook & Casino app in Ontario. This updated platform integrates the functionalities of the Bally Casino and Bally Bet Sportsbook apps, offering users a seamless experience with a single account and universal wallet. Powered by White Hat Gaming, the app caters to both sports betting and casino gaming enthusiasts within Ontario.

While the launch demonstrates Bally’s commitment to the region, some industry experts remain skeptical. “Ontario is oversaturated,” one observer remarked, suggesting the move might not significantly impact Bally’s market share. However, others see the launch as a broader strategy to standardize its offerings across multiple jurisdictions, especially as Bally aims to secure licenses in more states.

Industry Insights on Market Saturation

Aly Lalani, an iGaming marketing consultant, believes the Ontario market’s saturation is evident but sees opportunities for well-positioned newcomers. “There’s room for operators like Bally’s, particularly those with strong brand credibility,” Lalani noted. However, he emphasized the importance of a defined market strategy, cautioning against a generic approach.

On the other hand, Paul Burns, president and CEO of the Canadian Gaming Association, downplayed concerns about oversaturation.

Looking Ahead

With Bally’s Interactive now offering a more comprehensive app and 24 new operators potentially entering the market, the Ontario iGaming sector remains highly dynamic. While some see a saturated market, others argue that competition fosters innovation, leaving the ultimate decision in the hands of Ontario’s consumers.
