After just two weeks of the NFL season, the Circa Survivor pool has seen a dramatic reduction in participants. In response, Circa is offering an “empathy package” to those eliminated, which includes complimentary stays at Circa Resort & Casino in downtown Las Vegas.
The pool, which began with a record-breaking 14,266 entries, has dwindled to 3,877 following multiple upsets involving top-picked teams. According to Circa Sports, this marks an unprecedented level of early eliminations. In the Survivor pool, participants select one NFL team each week to win outright, but they cannot reuse teams in later weeks.
While the eliminated contestants are no longer eligible for the $14.26 million prize, Circa is offering consolation in the form of special perks. Players with one or two eliminated entries can claim a two-night midweek stay at the Circa Resort & Casino and access to a $0 minimum daybed at the year-round Stadium Swim pool. Contestants with three or more entries knocked out in the first two weeks are eligible for a three-night midweek stay and the same daybed perk. These offers are redeemable between November 3 and December 26, with each participant capped at five entries at $1,000 per entry.
Why the Pool Shrunk So Quickly
This isn’t the first time Circa has offered an empathy package, having done so in 2022. The early eliminations this year can be traced back to a few key upsets. In Week 1, the Cincinnati Bengals’ loss to the New England Patriots alone accounted for 34.3% of the entries eliminated.
The situation worsened in Week 2. When the Baltimore Ravens were upset by the Las Vegas Raiders, another 26.5% of participants were knocked out. Other significant losses included the Detroit Lions’ defeat by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which eliminated nearly 10% of contestants, and the misfortunes of the Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, and Indianapolis Colts, contributing to another 8.1% of exits.
The final blow came on “Monday Night Football,” when the Atlanta Falcons’ win over the Philadelphia Eagles took out the remaining 785 contestants who had picked the Eagles.
Record Attrition Rate in 2024
After just two weeks, only 27.2% of the original entries remain, marking the worst early elimination rate in the pool’s history. In comparison, the previous record low occurred in 2022, when 32.8% of entries survived through Week 3. Though the Survivor pool is designed to last 20 weeks, including Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve games, it could end sooner if the high attrition rate continues.
