This iconic establishment will see 10,000 square feet of its historic casino floor revitalized, with an additional 5,000 square feet being added to enhance its allure.
The makeover includes the creation of a new high-limit lounge and the introduction of two distinctive bars, perfectly aligned with its nostalgic pre-WWII ambiance.
One of these bars, termed a “roulette” bar, and the other, a “show” bar featuring a sizable 10-by-20-foot screen airing classic black-and-white films and live sports, promise a unique experience. The “show” bar will replace Ike’s, which debuted in 2017.
Moreover, the expansion will welcome two new culinary ventures: Hot Noods by Chinglish and a Starbucks outlet, catering to modern tastes and the younger demographic of Millennials and Gen-Zers that the resort has successfully attracted.
This revitalization follows a recent $30 million upgrade to the hotel’s original 47 rooms, Tower Premium rooms, and casino restrooms.
CEO and chair Kenny Epstein expressed excitement about the project, stating, “We are thrilled to unveil our latest expansion project, which represents a significant milestone for El Cortez and the community of downtown Vegas.”
Construction is slated to commence this summer, with completion expected early next year.
El Cortez has stood since its inauguration on November 7, 1941, in its original location on half a block of Fremont Street, between Sixth and Seventh streets, predating the street’s full paving.
