UFC 310: Pantoja’s Skillset Could Overwhelm Asakura

Alexandre Pantoja

Betting activity has been relatively quiet leading up to tomorrow night’s 14-fight UFC 310 event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, according to sportsbook insiders.

“Considering Alexandre Pantoja and Kai Asakura headline the card in the flyweight title bout, it’s not entirely unexpected,” said Mark Collier, a trader with BetVictor.

Asakura Attracts Early Bets, But Pantoja Favored

“The UFC flyweight division has historically drawn smaller betting handles, dating back to Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson’s dominance,” Collier explained. “Pantoja, however, brings an aggressive style to the cage, earning him the nickname ‘The Cannibal.’ While Asakura has never been submitted, Pantoja might look to assert control, especially if the fight reaches the championship rounds.”

Early wagers suggest bettors expect Pantoja to prove too strong for the 31-year-old Japanese challenger. Currently, Pantoja is a 4/9 (-225) favorite, dominating the action in bout-specific markets.

Heavyweight Clash: Gane vs. Volkov

The heavyweight division is also under the spotlight, with Ciryl Gane facing Alexander Volkov in a high-stakes rematch. Their first meeting was three years ago, and with uncertainty surrounding the division’s future, both fighters have much to prove.

Jon Jones recently defended the heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic via TKO, cementing Miocic’s retirement. While speculation swirls about Jones potentially facing light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, UFC President Dana White is pushing for a unification bout with interim champ Tom Aspinall.

Tomorrow’s clash offers Gane and Volkov an opportunity to enter the title conversation.

Gane Slightly Favored

“There’s been surprisingly little action on this fight,” Collier noted. “It’s likely due to the division’s focus on Jones and Aspinall. While this fight is just three rounds instead of five, Gane remains the favorite at 4/5 (-125), with many predicting a decision victory similar to their previous encounter.”

BetMGM data shows a split handle—52% on Gane, 48% on Volkov—but an overwhelming 83% of bets are backing Gane, reflecting his status as a -275 favorite (Volkov +210).

Co-Main: Rakhmonov vs. Garry

The co-main event features undefeated welterweight contenders Shavkat Rakhmonov (#3) and Ian Machado Garry (#7).

“Bettors seem confident in Rakhmonov, with his early odds of 2/5 (-250) shortening to 2/7 (-350),” Collier remarked. “Rakhmonov’s grappling presents a significant challenge for Garry, with a submission victory at 2/1 offering good value. Given the fight is scheduled for five rounds, a late finish is also drawing attention.”

While Garry previously avoided takedowns against Michael Page, Rakhmonov’s skill set could make this a grueling contest for the charismatic Irishman.
