The building had been vacant since the restaurant closed, and it was reportedly condemned, indicating that no one was supposed to be inside. No injuries were reported, and investigators are still determining the fire’s origin and whether it was suspicious.

Health Violations History

The M&M Soul Food Café had a history of health violations. The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) shut it down in September 2019, following a previous closure earlier that year. Health investigators cited multiple violations, including improper hand washing, dirty kitchenware, exposed insulation in the freezer, and unsafe storage of cut collard greens. Other issues included an employee handling food with soiled gloves, suspected mold in an ice machine, and insects in bulk flour. The restaurant also failed to properly post a grade card, leading to its closure on July 19, 2019, for similar violations.
