Ellis Island Casino Hotel & Brewery is shedding its reputation as a dive bar and stepping into a more upscale era. The first official renderings, released on Monday, showcase a dramatic $35 million renovation that brings a modern and luxurious touch to the family-owned property. Gone are the days of cheap BBQ, dive bars, and $5 blackjack and craps; the new design exudes a vibe closer to that of Wynn Resorts.
One Twitter/X user, @lizzie3420552, summed it up perfectly: “It’s no longer the little dump with cheap and good food.” Meanwhile, @picazo_198 humorously commented, “Long as steak and eggs stay at $9, they can do anything they want lol,” reflecting on Ellis Island’s value-driven appeal.
The renovation plans include expanding the casino floor out to Koval Lane, adding more than 250 new slot machines, a new casino pit, a center bar, and a rooftop bar and event space. Inside, the existing casino floor, Village Pub & Café, and the ever-popular karaoke lounge will all get a fresh look.
“We are very excited to have this project under way,” said Christina Ellis, VP of Development and daughter of owner Gary Ellis, in a press release.
No completion date for the renovation has been announced.
F1 Controversy
The expansion will add 6,415 square feet of space, some of which could be impacted by the F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, which blocks access to parts of the area each November.
Ellis Island has filed a lawsuit seeking more than $50,000 in compensation from F1, Clark County, and the State of Nevada. The lawsuit alleges that access to the casino for customers and employees was “intentionally obstructed” during the race, as well as during the six months of setup and teardown surrounding the event. Ellis Island sits just north of F1’s $500 million permanent paddock complex.
While oral arguments were heard in September, a verdict or settlement is unlikely before the second Las Vegas Grand Prix, scheduled for November 21-23.
