Penn Entertainment is partnering with Shake Shack to introduce the fast-casual burger favorite to 10 casinos nationwide.
The Pennsylvania-based operator—owner of the Hollywood, L’Auberge, and ESPN Bet Sportsbook brands—announced Wednesday that Shake Shack locations will begin opening at select properties next year. Hollywood Casino Toledo and River City Casino Hotel in St. Louis will be the first to debut the new dining option.
“This partnership marks another exciting development as we continue to reimagine our properties with refreshed dining and entertainment options,” said Todd George, Penn Entertainment’s executive vice president of operations. “Shake Shack is a well-known brand that resonates with customers, and we look forward to welcoming them to a core segment of our property portfolio.”
Shake Shack launched in 2004 as a small stand in New York City’s Madison Square Park and has since grown to nearly 600 locations across 34 states and Washington, DC. The brand also maintains an extensive international footprint, with restaurants in London, Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, Mexico City, Istanbul, Dubai, Tokyo, and Seoul. It’s best known for its burgers, shakes, and crinkle-cut fries.
A publicly traded company, Shake Shack is overseen by founder Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group, which operates several critically acclaimed Manhattan restaurants, including Gramercy Tavern, The Modern, and Ci Siamo.
Fast-Casual Fits Penn’s Regional Casino Strategy
Penn Entertainment primarily operates regional casinos—properties outside the major destination markets of Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Many of its patrons are locals seeking accessible, casual dining options. At Hollywood Casino Toledo, for instance, four casual restaurants complement its lone fine-dining venue, Final Cut Steak & Seafood.
Shake Shack’s president of global licensing, Michael Kark, called the Penn deal a “meaningful step into the entertainment space.”
“We continue to explore flexible formats that allow us to expand the Shake Shack brand into new regions of the US. Together with Penn, we’re creating new opportunities to share our special blend of top-notch ingredients and warm hospitality with even more guests,” Kark said.
Shake Shack in Las Vegas
The upcoming casino locations won’t be Shake Shack’s first presence in the gaming world. Its longtime restaurant at New York-New York Hotel & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip has operated since 2014, situated near the resort’s Brooklyn Bridge replica and outdoor plaza.
Shake Shack also has several other locations across Southern Nevada, including Summerlin and various Las Vegas neighborhoods.
