A croupier at Resorts World Sentosa has been sentenced to one year and three weeks in prison after pleading guilty to stealing tens of thousands of dollars using sleight of hand techniques at the gaming tables.
Oumnakil Thanakorn, a 35-year-old Thai national who had been working at the casino since December 2022, admitted to three charges, including criminal breach of trust by dishonest misappropriation. Though he faced a possible 25-year sentence, prosecutors requested a reduced term of 12 to 14 months after Thanakorn pleaded guilty.
Authorities say Thanakorn stole approximately S$55,000 (US$42,572) between May and July 2024 by discreetly slipping winning casino chips into his pants using a piece of paper as cover. He allegedly worked with two female gamblers—Buengloy Ananyaporn and Techawattanasakul Warattharin—who helped launder the chips in exchange for a cut. Surveillance footage later captured the scam occurring at least 29 times.
Ananyaporn reportedly cashed out S$32,500 in chips, while Warattharin handled S$4,500. Both are facing separate charges in court. Thanakorn admitted to sending much of the stolen funds back to Thailand to help his family with debt repayment.
Police recovered remaining stolen chips during a raid on Thanakorn’s home, though authorities don’t anticipate full restitution beyond what was seized.
Resorts World Sentosa and Marina Bay Sands hold exclusive rights to operate casinos in Singapore under a strict regulatory regime.
